Welcome to Timber Edge Farm, located in the peaceful countryside of Shabbona, Illinois and home to the Timber Edge Farm Rocky Mountain Horses.
Timber Edge Farm, a 30-acre horse paradise, is owned by Randy and Kelly Nehring. The pastures offer lush grass and ample room for the Rockies to graze and stretch their legs. Rockies spend their days out on pasture, only coming in inclement weather. This natural life-style makes for a healthy, sturdy and adaptable horse.
Kelly Nehring bought her first Rocky, Cash Crop (Twix), a chocolate gelding with flaxen mane. Twix’s gentle demeanor, up-for-anything attitude and trail steadiness hooked Kelly on the breed. Twix was confident, patient, versatile, and above all was extremely personable and was a delight to be around. He made trail riding truly a pleasure.
In 2020 Kelly launched the Timber Edge Farm Rocky breeding program. Kelly made careful decisions to choose mares and stallions that had impeccable confirmation, pleasurable & smooth gait, personality, and color, all of which made her fall in love with the breed.
The Timber Edge Rocky is purposely bred to be a beloved family member and steady, smart, and versatile trail partner! All foals are delivered on the farm and are handled from birth. Babies are haltered, led and have their feet picked up in the first days. Babies consistently learn ground manners eventually learning to tie, navigate trail obstacles, and trailer loading. Training sessions are kept short, not to overwhelm the young Rocky brain. The weaning process is done slowly over time under Kelly and Randy’s watchful eyes.
The exceptional breeding and solid foundation that Kelly provides often makes the first ride uneventful. Timber Edge Rockies quickly become a steady trail mount and are eager to please their owner.
